Studios Without Walls Celebrates Brookline’s 300 th Birthday
Sculpture collaborative presents art outdoors at Allandale Farm and Coolidge Corner in September
Studios Without Walls, a Brookline-based collaborative group of thirteen sculptors and conceptual artists, will be exhibiting experimental temporary installation and outdoor art in two exhibitions during late summer and early fall.
- “Time/Space/Continuum” September 3 – November 14 at Allandale Farm (259 Allandale Road, Brookline, 617.524.1531). Opening reception, Sunday September 11, 2-6 pm.
- “Room Without a View” September 18 at the Brookline Courtyard by Marriott (40 Webster Street, Coolidge Corner, Brookline 617.734.1393)
The sculptors of Studios Without Walls are represented in museums and private collections in the United Sates and Europe, and work in a range of media from paper to bronze, fiber to clay. The artists are: Susan Alport, Muriel Angelil, Myrna Balk, Louise Farrell, Wendy Hoo, Janet Hansen Kawada, Janna Longacre, Bette Ann Libby, Peter Lipsitt, Elizabeth Michelman, Joan Schwartz, Barbara Vogelsang, and Jim Wright. Studios Without Walls has been producing exhibitions in Brookline for eight years.
The collaborative has been supported by the Brookline Arts Commission and was named an “Exemplary Community Project” by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
The members of Studios Without Walls are committed to projecting a full and lively presence in the community and increasing public visibility of creative thinking at work in our own backyard. In addition to public exhibitions the artists engage in educational programs in schools such as the Lawrence School in Brookline and the Upham’s Corner Charter School in Dorchester, and other organizations such as the Brookline Senior Center. The artists continually seek new ways to bring audiences to their work and share their artistic process.
Studios Without Walls will also participate in Brookline’s 300 th Birthday Pary at Larz Anderson Park on November 13, presenting “The Strength of Three.” a participatory public sculpture using recycled materials.
