Studios Without Walls , a Brookline-based artist group of twelve sculptors/conceptual artists exhibits experimental temporary installation/outdoor art, which is sensitive and specific to the chosen locations. The work incorporates a broad range of materials from steel to video.
Members have shown their individual works in galleries and museums both nationally and internationally. Each artist has chosen a specific site to build their pieces for this exhibition. The artists exhibiting this year are: Susan Alport, Muriel Angelil, Louise Farrell, Wendy Hoo, Janet Hansen Kawada, Janna Longacre, Bette Ann Libby, Elizabeth Michelman, Joan Schwartz, and Barbara Vogelsang.
Studios Without Walls was formed 9 years ago to give a more visible presence of artists in the Brookline community. The group has received grants from the Brookline Arts Commission and the Massachusetts Cultural Council. They have also received generous funding from numerous Brookline businesses. This year the group received support from Brookline Place, Brookline Bank and Chestnut Hill Realty.
The artists of Studios Without Walls, individually and together, seek new ways to bring audiences to their work and share their artistic process. Representatives from the group will lead a family art activity on Sunday May 21 at noon at the Brookline Arts Center.
Public transportation is available for the exhibition. Monmouth Street is located one block from Beacon Street. Take the Green Line (C Train) and get off at the first stop above ground (St. Mary’s Street). Street parking is also available.
Studios Without Walls will also be exhibiting at Alandale Farm in South Brookline later this year.
